Great American Road Trip. Part 4

This latest installment of my ongoing road trip photo journal picks back up in Yellowstone National Park on day two; if you've ever visited Yellowstone you know how huge the park is, it took a good two days to even begin to make a dent in all there was to see and do there. We drove in the direction of Mammoth Hot Springs on the second morning to visit the geothermal terraces via a road that followed the rushing river before traversing this scenic viaduct.

The Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces give off  strong sulphur gases, we hiked to the top of the overlook but had to leave Hannes in the car in these areas; luckily it was cool enough outside for that to not be a problem, he wasn't very happy with us nonetheless.

Mammoth Hot Springs Resort as viewed from the top of the terraces;
you can see more steam vents in the foreground.

We stopped at a small store to get a drink and a muffin and look who was relaxing outside!

The drive through the forest out of Yellowstone toward Grand Teton
National Park held some natural, almost camouflaged, surprises too!

This was our first view of the Tetons; there aren't enough words to describe the beauty!

Jenny Lake ~ Grand Teton National Park

The Snake River view in Grand Teton; I could have stood in this spot forever!

This is isn't the best photo of us but look beyond it...
these mountains were, by far, my favorite part of our entire trip;
 I'll not soon forget their majesty and rugged splendor.

Life is Good!

Tomorrow: Idaho... our 50th state!

I can't begin to tell you the fond memories this post evokes. Mammoth was a place our family thoroughly enjoyed. We stayed in those cabins a couple of times and loved the terraces--and the animals casually relaxing all around.
Oh, and The Tetons!! Doesn't get any better. Jenny Lake is a favorite. Did you get to take the boat across and hike up to Hidden Falls or Inspiration Point? Did you see any bears around the lake? We have seen Grizzlies and black bears there at various times.
I wonder if DH would like to take a trip up North next month? : )

When I was a "puppy" (in my 20's) some college friends decided we should expand our river rafting experience. We went down part of the Snake and the Green Rivers ... AMAZING!!

Oh those mountains are GORGEOUS! I wish I could just pick them up and move them to my backyard! I've gone backpacking in the Tetons before (many years ago), but the beauty continues to make me catch my breath!
