No Shame
I wandered through a new (to me) quilt shop the other day. I was surrounded by beautiful and inspiring colors and patterns, enveloped in the heavenly scent of new fabric. What did I need? Not a thing. That is not the same answer to the next question: "what did I buy?"; no, not at all. I bought some red and white pieces for my future magnum opus quilt. I found an intriguing pattern that I just had to try... someday. I picked up some civil-war type fat quarters for the Quilt Block Bible project. Am I done with all my other "pending" quilt projects? Heavens, no! Am I ashamed to add more inventory to that list? Absolutely not. I make no apologies for collecting supplies and inspiration for the future. I will use it all; eventually. One day I'll select a piece from the shelves in the stash closet and be transported to that new (to me) quilt shop all over again, in my mind; the colors, patterns and yes, even the scent. I will smile and I will remember. My heart will be happy; sufficiently motivated, I'll start that new project. Yeah, I'm cool like that.

What a great quote! I am so cool I am practically frozen!
This is how I felt on my vacation as I bought a Row-by-row kit at very quilt shop. I end up with ten kits! Support the little brick and mortar shops!
So tell me about the Magnum opus. It is all allowed. Don't we have fun with all the possibilities?
AMEN!!!!!
yup -- I resemble that quote!
So well said. I was in The Gathering Place last week--hadn't been there for almost two years, and hadn't planned on stopping in that day, but there I was. Didn't need anything, but found plenty to bring home to inspire me and include in future, yet-to-be-determined projects.
I will be at AQS in Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday. This is a "girl's day" with three good quilting friends. We go each year and I always, always, always come home with quilt fever and inspiration. I am agog at all the talent that surrounds you PLUS the vendors ... OH!! THE VENDORS!! Little kits, big kits, patterns, bolts and FQs ... gadgets and trinkets ... it's overwhelming. I have been telling myself since the early part of this summer that I need NOTHING ... I will be "good" and not be like the dog in the movie "UP" who had focus problems ("SQUIRREL"). Yes, I've been telling myself that ... over and over and over and over .... SQUIRREL!!!!

What an EXCELLENT quote graphic and post. I love the process of gathering ideas and then sifting through those possibilities when it is time to add something new to the WIP list. You said it SO well!
i am a member of the "no shame" club as well...not that i'm not frugal, oh no, but i add to my collection when possible without guilt. and i AM using it, every day in every way....fabric fun to the max! thanks for accepting me as a NS member! no room in our vocabulary for the word NEED!
