Cheers!

Happy New Year! What's new with you? Have you resolved anything for 2017? I have: Drink. More. Water. Seems simple enough, right? Well... (and that's a deep subject) I have started off with lofty goals, to drink a gallon a day for a month! 🌊 I know, I know, that sounds like a tidal wave. Actually, I began early, on December 30. I decided to try this out first to see if I could do it, or if I would just be setting myself up for failure. By New Year's Eve I had already drunk more water than in the previous two weeks; easily. This practice, in reality, wasn't hard; I only had to train myself to do it. The more water I drank, the more water I actually wanted, my body seems to have taken over the demand on its own. My hot tea consumption dropped off dramatically. Wow, I have truly surprised myself! So, why did I choose this challenge for myself in the New Year? It, literally, came out of the blue. I saw a couple interviewed on Hallmark's Home & Family show last week, they were touting the all-around health benefits of "a gallon a day" and my interest was piqued. It was free, available and I was aware of the fact that I never drank enough water. I figured: "what could it hurt?" It seemed to me that it made sense one would naturally eat less if drinking a gallon a day but what about the other claims: better skin, flushes out toxins, boosts metabolism, decreases headaches, and banishes dark under-eye circles? Time will tell. I am going to follow through with this personal challenge and will definitely report my findings. So far I have noticed the obvious-- I get much more exercise while drinking this much water, back and forth to a certain destination, as you would imagine. However, that's not the only noteworthy item; I have already noticed an increase in my energy level and am waking up earlier, fully rested and refreshed. Hmmm. Water. Plain and simple. As we embark upon a new month together I will be weighing in (hopefully lighter) with the results. I, for one, am going to be toasting 2017 with water, and plenty of it. Bottoms up!

Life is Good!

My hubby and I are doing the same thing! And we've added 'a salad meal' every day, too! Hoping to see the number on the scale go down....even a smidge will do! It hasn't done anything but go up since Halloween! Eek!

Does an American gallon have 8 pints? If so thats nearly 5 litres a day. A huge amount of water!!!!

Just googled it. American gallon is smaller than Imperial gallon. 3.7 vs 4.5 litres. I live in Aust. We used Imperial measures many years ago before conversation to metric.I still sometimes switch between the two.

Very timely, and interesting post, as I have just had blood tests done, and my doctor has prescribed me to drink more, due to my kidney function reading. I know I don't drink enough water, so will be trying to do what you are doing too.

i think most people don't drink enough water...years ago had gravel in my kidney due to high calcium prenatal vits, urologist told me to drink big glass of water every night and would never have kidney problems again...most don't realize the kidneys do their best work while the body is at rest....

I didn't see that show, but I have learned by experience that I feel better and have a different "glow" when I am drinking more water. Hint - I learned to do most of my drinking prior to 6 pm so that I could sleep through (or mostly through) the night.

It takes 21 days to create a habit, so if you keep going you can make this a GOOD habit. I never ever go anywhere without my water bottle. It is like an extension of my arm. When my grand-daughter comes to visit, she heads for Grandma's water bottle for a really big drink! (She's 2). Saturday, she drank my whole bottle of water. We have bought her water bottles but she likes Grandma's. :) Keep up the good work!

Due to kidney issues this is my 2017 resolution also. I did it for three months in 2016 and then fell off the wagon. So here is hoping...

Several years ago I noticed the pharmacists parting words were always be sure you drink a lot of water wit that so I began drinking more water and in that time I have had only had one new prescription and that was short term. Water does more good than drugs.
Hope it becomes a habit
Happy new year
Ann

I have trouble drinking even the recommended 8 glasses. I know I need to be taking in more water but it sure is a struggle... and an awful lot of runs to the bathroom.
