Bye, Bye Social Media

I have accepted a challenge to give up both Facebook and Instagram; at first it seemed hard, then I realized that my scrolling to those sites on my phone was purely habitual and not based on a need to know anything whatsoever. I can honestly say that in the last few weeks, the elapsed time since I have said good-bye to those two social media platforms, I have felt calmer and happier. I haven't looked back and I've learned that if there's anything important to know, someone is going to call me and tell me. The bonus there is an actual telephone call from one person to another, truly a win-win! I will continue this blog, it's something that I have always enjoyed and I have met so many wonderful friends as a result, but I won't be linking this blog to my Facebook page anymore. I'm grateful for the challenge that was offered and continue to feel so fortunate that I was in the frame of mind, at the time, to accept it. This might be something that you want to consider if you're frustrated by time-drains and other peoples’ drama resulting in nothing to show for the effort. Personally, I've been very productive with those reclaimed hours. Originally I thought I would do it for a week but then I realized how much better I felt without needing to know how many times Sue gets up during the night, why Teresa's children don't have summer jobs, who's traveling where and what political candidate Bob is backing and why I'm not very smart if I don't agree with him. One delightful week led to two, and then three... bliss!
I'm still here, right where I've always been,
feeling much more at peace and relaxed.
Life is Good!

If not for far away family I'd ditch Facebook too....easy to fritter away time if one isn't careful.... We got along fine without these time wasters for years!

What Grace said. I've been thinking seriously about quitting FB. Fortunately, I never really started with IG or anything else. Good for you!

For a couple reasons I stay on Facebook but have found it extremely liberating that I can "snooze" those who have nothing better to do than spam their friends daily with constant 'stream of consciousness' drivel. Now I can finally find the posts I want to see - photos of distant grandchildren and wedding photos of a favorite niece in a distant city. Have never even considered twitter or instagram or pinterest. Still love reading favorite quilting blogs, some are like letters from close friends, and I guess that is what they become over time.

I am glad you are still blogging!
I have tried to stay away from other social media. Had a brief stint with Pinterest, have never done Instagram, and am on Facebook only for one quilt group, and a church group. I have my settings so I am private, and I have no Facebook “friends”. I like it that way!

I am glad you are still blogging too... I find I'm blogging less and less but staying on a daily basis with Instagram... I never got into Facebook or others though I recognize how much I am on the phone just DOING things like checking out library books, reading the news, studying Spanish etc. These devices are supposed to be timesavers but they are time eaters.

I just re-found your blog and I'm happy I did. I also gave up social media several months ago and have been much happier without it. I'm glad you're still blogging!
