The Sky Is Falling...

Augie and I stepped out of the sewing room door to take a short walk to the mailbox together, I had a card to stick in before the mail lady arrived. Once outside, I heard the hawk before I saw him; a hoarse, piercing s-h-r-i-e-k. I glanced up and he lighted in the top of a cedar tree. He glided along the same path down the driveway that we took, screaming as he progressed from tree top to tree top. Augie quickened his steps, I tightened up on his leash; I didn't take my eye off the raptor. I placed the card in the mailbox and raised the flag. The hawk swooped down in our direction before he pulled up and away, but as he did, he dropped a dead songbird right, exactly, where we stood at the mailbox! That bird hit the ground with a thud directly in front of Augie, he jumped back and I grabbed him up in my arms at the same time. Honestly, it was one of the strangest, most terrifying occurrences! I was shaking as I came back in the house to report the incident to Mr. Goodneedle. He accompanied us back outdoors (I carried Augie) to check on the bird and see if it was able to be revived. It wasn't. Have any of you ever experienced such a thing? Since then we've been back outside at least a dozen times but I can't help but feel like Chicken Little, eyes to the sky. All is well, the sun is shining brightly and I haven't seen any predatory birds today but I'd be lying if I said that I'm still not more than a little bit shaken.
The above happened yesterday. Thanks to all who've been so kind to check in via email and text as to where I've been during the blog "break".  I know, I know; I said that I was going to begin posting on a more regular basis again. In fact, I even proclaimed that I was going to be more mindful of that in the form of a resolution. It's not like there hasn't been things going on, it's the opposite; so much has been happening that I truly haven't had time to even think about sitting down to compose a blog post. Rather than do a lengthy boring "catch up" all at once, I chose to jump back in with yesterday's bizarre occurrence and fill in a bit at a time going forward, with this and that; random goings-on from the past few weeks.

Life is Good!

So sorry to hear of such a scare and very glad to hear neither you or Augie was hurt. Take care and hope you can get back quickly to being outside happily without regularly checking the sky.

That had to be terrifying. Glad you and Augie are okay. I’ve had a nasty mockingbird swoop out of its nest and grab my shirt as I exited the front door. Needless to say, we used the other door until the hatchlings flew off.

Oh thank goodness the bird didn't take little Augie!

Keep good watch on Augie. My brother's family lost their owl dog to an early morning predator... So sad for all... The circle of life can sometimes be hard and we are the protectors of our pet family.
