Hooray! What a glorious accomplishment. We deemed those blocks too fragile for washing before they were stabilized with sashing, all cut on the straight grain.
They came back to me for baths, all delicately hand done and rinsed...
...before they were stretched out, covered for protection from the sun, birds, etc;
and dried outdoors one at a time. Stay tuned for what happens next!
Every quilt tells a story!

Working with vintage fabrics/blocks is so rewarding. Will you add an underlay between the top and batting to help stabilize the fragile fabrics?
obviously a labor of the best kind of love....she did a great job!
Well done and beautifully done! A true labor of love. My maternal grandmother left a stack of blocks and my mother finished them, her grieving quilt, they were appliquéd butterflies with black thread and buttonhole stitch. It was the only quilt my mother made. I have the quilt so maybe a future blogpost.
Beautiful quilt tops!!
I love what is happening here, and can't wait to hear "the rest of the story"!
