Let's Boogie!

Now you see a spikey feather... now you don't!  I found the coolest upgrade from a dry-erase board for training my brain to execute free motion quilting designs, it's called a Boogie Board; I love it! This is a super thin LCD writing tablet which has the outward appearance of an old-fashioned blackboard. The similarity ends there. A stylus comes with the board (and a clip to hold the two items securely  together), it marks as easily and smoothly as writing on glass. Drawings erase cleanly and instantly with the press of a button; no ghost marks remain and no cloths needed like on a dry-erase, and not one trace of chalkdust like from a blackboard. I see lots of quilting design practice time in my future. I first saw one of these in a toy store, the greatest treasures always seem to be lurking there. Three years ago I posted here about a different toy-store find, the Etch-A-Sketch Freestyle, it is no longer made; apparently the obvious use for quilters wasn't made clear or it would still be selling like gangbusters! I was planning on putting  a Boogie Board on my Santa list, but I just couldn't wait (my inclusion on the "nice" list wasn't ever in question, not to worry!). This paperless notepad could easily become my latest addiction item. .. doodlers beware, this sweet little board is close to perfection! Now, let's boogie!

The Cutting Edge

Attention gadget geeks: Santa's on the cutting edge! Just look at what he put in my stocking for Christmas. I hadn't seen one of these before, hadn't read about it , didn't know such a thing existed! This Fiskars fingertip rotary cutter is cute and clever but it won't replace your regular cutter for normal tasks. I leave it out on my cutting table and have been using it for trimming threads and neatening up edges; it is comfortable, easy to use, and provides excellent control. I have also used it with a straight edge, and it performed well. If you get one, and it certainly has it's place in my sewing room, I will caution you about three things:
1. Be careful with the blade cover it's awkward to remove and replace, which could be dangerous.
2. The blade is permanent, making the tool a disposable one when it gets dull.
3. Don't forget you have it on and scratch your nose or adjust your glasses while it is on your finger, YIKES! (I didn't DO this, I'm just saying... it's that comfortable, you could forget that you're wearing it.)
