Coming Clean

My husband is taking apart a 1950  Farmall tractor and restoring it; piece by piece. The laundry challenges produced by 60+ year old dirt and grease are daunting. I had never tried Fels-Naptha before. From here on in it will be my go-to product. It's no wonder that it's been around since 1894, this simple bar works, as advertised. My laundry room is now fully equipped.

From Bad To Worse

I saw this cookie mix at the grocery store last week. I thought this might be the worst new product I'd seen to hit the store shelves in a long time, but I was wrong. My daughter-in-law told me about this new doll yesterday afternoon; at first I thought she was kidding... it is such a ridiculous concept that it's hard, if not impossible, to believe a group of educated toy executives approved such a doll for market! But, less than ten minutes after she told me about it, I saw the commercial on television; I am appalled.  The cookies can be chalked up to simply another bad disgusting flavor combination (in my opinion) but, I suppose, it might just appeal to someone. The doll, however, is in such poor taste that I can't imagine anyone would think it was worth whipping out their wallet to buy. I'm still in shock, the bad taste these cookies would leave in my mouth pales in comparison to what is, in my opinion, a very bad decision by Little Tikes.

What Can I Use Now?

I used to love this Stick-n-Stitch product! I bought it whenever I found it at some of the large quilt shows and, at one time, had a nice little stockpile of these sheets in my supply cabinet. It was a soft, fiber sheet with a paper-release sticky backing that could be used over and over again. I would trace quilting shapes onto it, cut them out, and place them on my quilt to hand quilt* around before peeling the shape up and moving it to another block, I never had to mark the quilt and the adhesive never left any discernible residue. Somewhere along the line I learned that this product is no longer available. Online searches proved that to be true. Stick-n-Stitch is gone like the dinosaurs. Unfortunately, my hoarded supply had dwindled down to one, single, piece. Over lunch the other day with my trusted confidante and advisor, Quiltkeemosabe, I asked her if she knew of anything else I could use that would serve the same purpose. She suggested machine embroidery stabilizer, the sticky-back, tear away, variety. Bingo! I had a roll sitting right under my nose; don't you just love a dual-purpose product? I tested it out, and she was right; it works... brilliantly!

Cure All?

My husband suffers from, what must be, a genetic malady. The skin on his fingertips cracks open in the wintertime,  and proves resistant to all creams, balms and ointments. His sister has the same affliction and has sent boxes of items that work for her, with varying degrees of success, for my husband to try. This product is one of them; read below the brand name what it claims to be for... they must sell tons at Halloween!
