Cure All?

My husband suffers from, what must be, a genetic malady. The skin on his fingertips cracks open in the wintertime,  and proves resistant to all creams, balms and ointments. His sister has the same affliction and has sent boxes of items that work for her, with varying degrees of success, for my husband to try.
