It's All In The Details

My husband likes projects, since he retired he's had time to devote to them start to finish, which makes him very happy. He completely redid his mother's kitchen last fall and built a few bookcases for the grandchildren for Christmas. He was itching to start a new project again and decided it was time to make the raised panel wainscoting for our dining room! Of course, it won't be confined to the dining room as there's no natural stopping point; so, it continues out into the foyer, around the corner and up the stairs. It is going to be beautiful, he does amazing work. The board that you see here (at chair rail height) is the backer to a gorgeous piece of moulding that will mount on the surface and wrap around the column and beyond. The angles need precision cuts for the profile to connect and flow perfectly and appear seamless , the inside and outside angle joins provide a challenge; something quilters know, understand and completely appreciate.  Home improvement is an ongoing state of affairs here at Chez Goodneedle; whether it's a clean closet or custom woodwork, the beauty is all in the details.

Life is Good!

From what I have seen in previous posts, your home is lovely. How nice that Mr. G. loves projects and does such nice work. My DH also does beautiful work, but after building our home, he is not particularly fond of projects anymore. : )

Such a talented couple you two are. I'm so envious of his skills. I'm also lusting after your beautiful inlaid flooring.....

how lucky you are to have a handyman husband. Mine is not ... but I'm thankful that he knows that he's not, so when it comes time for repairs or home improvements, we pay for the job to be done, without having to pay to have DH's "work" undone. ;-)

I LOVE that hardwood flooring!

I love winescoting: we don't have any here. But how lucky you are to have such a creative husband: and how lucky he is to have a wife who lets him create in her house.

You'd better not ever show your husband MY husbands work. He is a wonky carpenter and doesn't use a level or a measuring tape. Everything is crooked to say the least...
