Chewing On The Word...
Yep, it's true; this is my actual Bible. I don't literally chew on it; although, figuratively... (even though it does appear to have a hole bitten through it's cover!) I'm not embarrassed to be seen with this, even though it's really a mess. It's torn and bent and FULL of markers and markings. A couple of the pages are taped together and it's crammed full of notes and inserts, cards and pictures. I guess it represents me, scars and all. Every day is better when it begins with a good, nourishing breakfast; but, save a little room... for chewing on The Word! Where's yours?

I actually have several Bibles. One is very old and I've had it since I was a child. It's white with a zipper all around, but it's the King James Version which we don't use much anymore. It has a lot of sentimental meaning for me.
I also have an NSR version which is the one I refer to and use most often. It's not quite as "loved" as yours but it is always close by. No chunks bitten out of it yet! ;-)
And finally I have a contemporary Bible, The Message, which is a good reference for understanding a passage since it has different wording.
I find it interesting to read the same passage in all three Bibles sometimes. No matter the interpretation, it is always meaningful.
I think a well-used Bible in someone's hands would beat a pristine Bible sitting on a shelf anyday.
Amen to what Shelina said! When I was a kid, the only thing my Mom used a bible for was to put obituaries in. Now that my DH and I are getting into scripture, we have several different versions. I bought Mom a new giant print bible for Xmas this year and I hope to encourage her to actually read it. It really is fascinating, as well as "nourishing."
Lovely Bible...well used. That's what it's all about!
Thanks for visiting my blog. I loved your response to St. Nicholas.
