Can This Quilt Be Saved?

I unearthed this quilt “hatchling” while cleaning and reorganizing. I am turning to my friends here in this forum to ask the following questions:

1. Can this quilt be saved?
But, maybe the better question is:
2. SHOULD this quilt be saved? (Or put out of its misery?)
3. How can I calm it down? 4. Make it work?
If you dare, you can click the photo to enlarge the image.
5. Where do I go from here? (It’s OK to say the dumpster... I can take it.)

The facts:

I began piecing this twelve years ago. This hatchling measures 52” X 23.5” and I have enough fabric to finish it as a small bed quilt or throw… more than enough. I stopped for a reason… I don’t know what that reason was now, but I’m guessing it could have been a color-induced headache! I had even jotted a title idea back in 1995, it was folded up with all the materials; so, at the time, I must have been committed to seeing this through…

Fiesta Cats!

Help me decide. I have some ideas but didn’t want to influence or stifle any creative suggestions, so I’ve posted the pictures of exactly what I have done so far. What d’ya think?

You can send it to me.... I love it in all of ist kitty glory!

on a more practical note, I have used "less than successful" tops as quilt backs...

I think it is fine. If you want to calm it down, you can add a wide border - a solid or mottled black. You are so close, and since you have the material to finish it, I think you should. I think you will love it once again after it is finished.

I'm wondering if you put a solid color in the sashing square, like maybe red, if that would bring it together. Of course that would require more work, maybe more than you're willing to invest in it. I like the bright cat print--the cats seem to be having so much fun. But the black and white cats look mad, maybe because they aren't having any fun???? Maybe that's what wrong with it, the two cat prints are fighting with each other????It's a cat fight!

I love this quilt! It's so happy, and I especially like the kitty in her yellow polka-dot bikini! It would seem a shame not to finish it, and I agree a wide border would probably tone it down a little. I love Quiltkeemosabe's suggestion that it's a Cat Fight.

Coming from someone who wouldn't know the first thing about making a quilt (me !), I wouldn't say this was a CATastophe..(sorry, couldn't resist that)I rather like it. It would be a shame not to finish it. Beside years from now your ancestors can specualate on *what was she thinking*...LOL

Well, I don't mind it although it's very busy for my taste. I'd border it in something calm, like black or a bright tone on tone from the cat fabric, and perhaps a bright tone on tone backing. Any kid would love it!

This quilt is really fun! I agree with the sugestions on a wide border - pehaps a narrow red/orange inner border and a wider black outer border. You have to finnish it, please! And if you still dont like it when it's done; donate it to a cat lover or a kindergarten:-)
