Life Happens...

...when you're busy making plans for other things. Today is "Gregory" day. I keep my youngest grandson on Mondays, I leave the house at 7 AM and arrive at his home at precisely 7:30. This morning was no different, I was in the process of bidding Mr. Goodneedle good-bye, armed with my "nap time" projects when the phone rang; the caller I.D. displayed "Mom". My heart sank, it was my mother-in-law, she does NOT get up early; this couldn't be good news. She had fallen, last night, she couldn't get up and she needed my husband to come; the details were sketchy. I went my way and he went his. I arrived at Gregory's home just about the same time that Mr. Goodneedle arrived at his mother's, our worst fears were confirmed. An ambulance was summoned and Gregory and Nana were enroute to join them. Mom's spirits were good, despite an eight-hour-plus detour to the carpet beside her bed. She fell at 11 PM last evening, she hit her head and her side against her bathroom vanity. She didn't want to disturb anyone's sleep even though she had access to the telephone and a life alert button... I firmly believe she thought she would eventually gain enough strength to climb up into her bed and be O.K. Unfortunately, that never happened. After a grueling day in the E.R. she has finally been admitted to a room. She has three broken ribs, that's the bad news. The good news is that her spirits are positive and she's looking forward to a short hospital stay and coming home to her little dog, Linus. He is living here with us temporarily and not any too happy about that; but, I didn't get any appliqué done today during nap time either. Why? Because, life happens when you're busy making plans for other things, that's just the way it is. Please pray for Mom, God is listening and there's power in numbers; I know there's an army of prayer warriors out there. She is feisty and funny and full of life; and, as I always say...

Life is GOOD!

So sorry to hear of your MIL's fall. My Auntie is declining and I have been dealing with all of that, so I know all about the elderly life-happening things. Keep your chin up.

Oh, so sorry to hear about her fall. :-( Goodness gracious....she didn't want to bother you before you were up for the day! I'm glad her injuries weren't any worse and that she'll get home soon. Prayers being said for her, and for all of you, including Hannes who has an unexpected visitor this week!

You are a wonderful grandma and a wonderful DIL. Your family is very blessed to have you.

You'll get your applique done...when the time is right.

Sending prayers your way. Hope Hannes isn't too "put out" having to share his home and your attention.

I'm sorry about MIL's trip to the hospital and broken ribs. But, I'm VERY glad you told the story! Why? Well, I am going to file it away for the day when I am old and something like this may happen to me...I want to be just as considerate, thoughtful and unselfish as your MIL! Waiting until the next morning to call...and with all the bad of the situation...she is still "chipper"

Oh, my! Poor thing, too polite to call for help. I hope she gets over that shyness from this incident's experience! Sending healing thoughts and patience--bones take a while to stop hurting.

Prayers about for her healing, your sanity, and the loving kindness of her caregivers. Peter Pan was a prophet when he declared that he didn't want to grow up and become an adult ... he didn't realize why the way we do, but he was definitely onto something!

Take care ...

Why do parents think they are doing us a favor but not "bothering" us, not realizing it just makes it worse. I've dealt with this same thing several times now.......*sigh*

At least she is okay now.

I am glad it wasn't a hip, I know the ribs will hurt but I pray she will be home soon.

O my... a heartbreak of an evening, I don't dare think too long of her discomfort... I hope she was not afraid. Her heart must be so very soft to endure that evening rather than "disturb" anyone else. May God grant her fast and full recovery, with minimal discomfort. Blessings to all of you. B

Oh dear! What is it about that generation that they just don't want to bother anybody? So glad that all is taken care of! Cheers!

OH my goodness, I know the fear that comes when "those" phone calls come in. I am glad she is doing ok. God bless you all.

I'm a volunteer EMT in a small town. You can't imagine how many older people apologize over and over for needing help in the middle of the night. We gently say that we will come whenever they need us and urge them not to wait a single second next time. It's definitely a generational thing. Good wishes for your MIL.
