Marking Time

I have a new way of marking time in the Studio these days, the rapid passing of each hour is cuckoo here now; and I love it! (The cuckoo, not the swift passage of time!!) I have been quiet the last two weeks, absent from the blog for good reason; my Mom and Dad have been visiting, we had a wonderful time. They are responsible for this beautiful new addition to the wall. It is a birthday gift, marking a significant birthday (Medicare? Who, me?? That's definitely CUCKOO!) for me near the end of last month. I had seen this clock a few years ago at Keepsake Quilter in Meredith, NH when Mom and I were shopping there. I remarked to her back then about how much I loved it; and, because she's my mother, she remembered! I was very surprised and genuinely thrilled to open this amazing gift!

Our time together passed much too quickly. We did visit an Amish store and neighboring community one day and the Zoo on another. But, mainly, we stayed at home and visited. I did get some sewing done and will share that, as well as a video of the marvelous cuckoo clock in action, in upcoming posts.
The great-grandchildren were all here on several occasions which, naturally,
is always wonderful for us but was an extra-special treat for my parents.
I am glad that my mother suggested grabbing my camera for these two shots last Saturday.
My Dad is teaching Gregory how to count and peg a Cribbage hand. This is especially heartwarming to me, as one of my earliest childhood memories is hearing my Grandfather, Dad and Uncle count Cribbage hands on any given Friday night at my grandparents' home. (And, as mentioned above, we all now know how long ago that was!) Mr. Goodneedle and I play Cribbage every day at lunch, and most days at dinner too. In the future may be playing three-handed now, with our grandson!
All too soon it was departure day. We took this picture in the garage right before they headed for home on Monday. They were happy to welcome a back seat passenger, Pfaff, to accompany them on their traveling adventure! (Yes!! My Mom really did come to visit, somehow she didn't appear in any of the photos except for this one!😞)
Life is Good!

What a wonderful birthday surprise! Happy belated birthday to you! :)
Looks like you had a grand time together, even if your Mom somehow escaped the photos. Love the shots of your Dad with Gregory--priceless.

I wondered when you might publicly acknowledge that milestone birthday (since ours are only a few days apart). Congratulations to you for making it this far! And yes, SO good that you snapped those two photos of the cribbage players.

Love this post! You are blessed to still have your parents-lucky girl. Medicare-we loved it because it was like having extra money since we had to pay for our own health insurance once hubby retired. Your new clock is perfect-love Keepsake Quilting; my dad had a cuckoo clock from the Black Forest and my brother has it now. Another similarity is that hubby and I both grew up playing cribbage and whenever he is home at lunch we also play it. We then play Euchre and then Golf; our grands love playing cribbage with their grandpa. Can't wait to see what you've been sewing. Happy Birthday to you! My daughter turned 39 yesterday and two sil's have birthdays on Monday, so we'll celebrate Sunday night.
Joy to you.

Happy Birthday wishes to you! What a special treat to have your parents visiting! And the new sewing room clock will be a joy as you stitch. I love the cribbage pictures! We started out playing cribbage in the evenings when our children were little but somewhere along the line we switched to Scrabble and now that is our treat after breakfast and after dinner. So many decisions have been made over that Scrabble board!

First of all, Happy Birthday and wishes for many more. Moving to the "dark side" isn't so bad as you'll soon find out. My birthday in March is a biggie ... that ends in a zero and I'm past starting my Medicare! Enjoy EVERY day ... especially those that include your parents. Mine are both gone (as well as all my aunts and uncles) and treasure the days I had with them. We'll have a lot of catching up to do when we're all together again someday. LOVE that you play a game at lunch and dinner each day ... my sweetie and I play 3 hands of gin rummy each night after dinner. Euchre and "500" are big games up here in Northern Michigan ... card games are just so much fun! The clock is lovely and perfect for your studio ... enjoy and, again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Linda
