Project Bags

These are Project Bags, made from the pattern of the same name. I have made lots of them; as gifts, and a few to keep. They are pretty to look at and straight-forward to construct. According to the write up on the pattern, they are: 

Great for organizing everything you need for each of your projects, these handy totes in four sizes have sturdy quilted bases and fun fabric details. A zippered closure keeps everything safe and secure and a see-through vinyl window allows you to see at a glance what is in each bag.

I concur, although I have only made the large (13" X 13") size. For me, they are especially handy to place chosen fabrics, supplies and the pattern or booklet for any given project all in one tote for workshops or retreats.

Project Bag

I made a Project Bag today, actually I made up several! This is the fourth in the series of organizers being highlighted each month at my LQS featuring Patterns by Annie. This quilted tote makes up quick and easy and is handy for keeping up with everything you might need in one place for any type of projects on-the-go. I made mine in the large size, which finishes to 13 inches square; these are the perfect size for fabric bundles and a pattern and/or book, for carrying completed and pressed quilt blocks, or anything else you can think of. The fabric requirements are minimal: a few coordinating fat quarters and you're good to go, the addition of a see-through vinyl window in front for easy identification of the contents and a zipper to keep it all secure. I think this is an ideal gift, too, I am already thinking about making a few up in children's fabrics and slipping in a coloring book and crayons or travel games for in the car! (There are three other sizes for this bag too, I might just have to make one of each.) What would you carry in your project bag?

Isn't It Funny...

... how one thing can lead to another?

Remember those tote bags* constructed for LWR school kits? Our Youth and Family Ministries director at church had an idea about getting similar totes to keep in our narthex area loaded with crayons and coloring books; the thought being that these could be borrowed by our youngest worshipers. I volunteered to make a few, "eight" she added, "we'll need eight". OK, eight it is! She had another idea, too. Marking "Little Lutheran" on them with fabric paint. Huh? Naturally, I volunteered again; we could certainly do better than fabric paint... how about embroidering them? Needless to say, she was thrilled with that idea. One down, seven to go.

In the meantime, I'm trying to fit getting ready for retreat around my other responsibilities. I leave this evening. My plan for the sewing marathon in the mountains are more of Bonnie's String Stars*, enough to construct a quilt top. I have plenty of strings, already in their own bin, ready to go. But, I was thinking... wouldn't it be great to already have the setting triangles cut out? Oh, yeah. And the more I thought about it... if I already had the triangles cut, wouldn't it be even better to have the half square triangles cut... and pieced? And the sashing strips cut? And the teeny-weeny four-patches pieced? And the foundation papers cut into their diamond shapes? Done! I'm almost ready. It's been a lot of work but it will be well worth the preparation when I can simply sit and sew. I'm counting down the hours! Fabric, friends, and fun; isn't it funny (and wonderful!)... how one thing can lead to another?
